Officer Found Dead in Texas Flood – What We Know So Far

A heartbreaking update from the Texas flood crisis: the body of Odessa Police Officer Bailey Martin has been recovered. Officer Martin, who was vacationing with family at the Guadalupe River near Kerrville over the Fourth of July holiday, was swept away by flash flooding. His body was found on July 7 following a multi-agency search operation.

A native of Odessa and a graduate of OPD’s 25th Session Academy, Martin was on duty as a police officer before his trip. His tragic death adds to a flood-related death toll that has now surpassed 100 across the region.

Officer Found Dead in Texas Flood – Search & Rescue Continues

Search teams are still active in flood-impacted counties, assisting families and searching for missing members. OPD has shared that Martin’s family members were also caught in the flood, and multiple agencies are supporting his loved ones during this time.

The Odessa Police Department has lowered flags to half-staff, officers are wearing mourning bands, and residents are encouraged to display blue porch lights in memory of Bailey Martin.
