UPDATE: 14 Injured in NJ Skydiving Crash – Press Briefing Recap
🚨 A press conference was held after the July 2nd skydiving plane crash at Cross Keys Airport in Williamstown, NJ.
Fourteen of the 15 people on board the small skydiving aircraft were treated for injuries. Three critically injured passengers were airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, while eight others were also transported there by ambulance. An additional three victims were taken to Inspira Medical Center in Mullica Hill. One person refused treatment at the scene. The pilot was among the injured.
Officials declared a mass casualty incident at the scene. Several people were covered in jet fuel, but miraculously, no fatalities were reported.
Andrew Halter from the Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management praised the response, crediting a recent mass casualty training exercise at Cross Keys Airport for the quick action.
The plane, a Cessna 208B, took off at 5:19 PM and was only in the air for four minutes before crashing near a wooded area. The pilot reported engine trouble after takeoff and attempted to circle back for an emergency landing but was unsuccessful. Emergency crews remained on scene overnight, and the FAA, NTSB, Monroe Township Police, and Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.
🛬 History of the aircraft:
The same plane was involved in a July 2023 incident in Suffolk, Virginia, according to NTSB records. During that crash, the pilot was landing after her fifth skydive run of the day when the nose gear collapsed due to an inadequate landing flare. The plane veered off the runway into the grass and sustained damage to its engine mounts. No mechanical malfunctions were found at that time.
