CDC–Emory University Shooting: Officer Killed, Suspect Patrick White Identified

Authorities have identified Patrick Joseph White, 30, of Kennesaw, Georgia, as the suspect in the deadly shooting near Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta on August 8, 2025.

White allegedly opened fire on multiple CDC buildings, killing DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose during the response. No civilians were injured, including the children at the CDC daycare.

Neighbors described White as “pleasant” and helpful, often walking dogs and assisting with yard work. While he never discussed politics, they say he was openly against vaccines. One neighbor noted he had recently lost weight.

  • Next morning – Shooter identified as Patrick White.
